Considered to be nothing short of a literary genius by many, George RR Martin gave the world one of the most popular TV shows of all time thanks to HBO’s Game of Thrones, an adaptation of A Song of Ice and Fire, which continues to enjoy unparalleled success to this very day. Here are two interesting facts about George RR Martin that you may not have known.
He wrote for The Twilight Zone in the 1980s. Long before HBO adapted his work into the wildly successful Game of Thrones series, Martin made his first forays into the world of television in the 1980s when he wrote for CBS’s reboot of the The Twilight Zone. Martin wrote 5 episodes in total for the series in 1986, and the next year he would continue to write for the network when he worked on Beauty and the Beast before leaving television to focus on his novels.
He used to type on an old computer from the 80s that still ran DOS. Up until recently Martin used a computer that could only be described as an antique to write his novels, a machine from the 1980s that ran WordStar 4.0 on DOS. The machine has since given up the ghost, however, so Martin now uses a more modern computer, but still runs WordStar 4.0 and DOS on an emulator.
